Execution - Personalize

The Personalize part of TheStashCan was created so that you, the user, could define how you want your Stash categorized.

TheStashCan provides 4 ways of defining your Stash.

  1. Types - For Example: Beads, Charms, Kits, Patterns ...
  2. Styles - For Example: Antique Glass, Zipper, Southern ...
  3. Publishers - For Example: Just CrossStitch, Country Stitch Monthly ...
  4. Designers - For Example: Lavender & Lace, Mirabilia, Teresa Wentzler ...

Types

Let's click Types and see what we get!

A one entry maintenance screen seems like a waste, but you'll see later that it really makes a difference to how TheStashCan works with you and your settings and definitions to organize your Stash YOUR WAY!

If you'll take a look at the buttons on the bottom of the screen ... those same buttons appear on ALL your StashCan screens. So basically, learn what they do once and you've got the whole system down!

Let's review what each of the buttons do:

  • Top - click and you'll go to the virtual top of your list; the first item in your file
  • Next - click to move to the next item in your list
  • Previous - click to back up to the previous item in your list
  • Bottom - click and you'll go to the virtual bottom of your list; the last item in your file
  • Find - click to search your list for a specific item *
  • Add - click to add a new item to your list
  • Edit - click to edit the current item (For Example: change the spelling)
  • Delete - click to delete the current item **
  • Exit - click to exit the current maintenance screen

* The Find button provides you a method for searching through all your Types for something specific.

If you'll provide the system with a full OR partial name to search for, it'll jump you to the first item meeting your search criteria, thus saving you from having to next - next - next - next ... 'til you find what you're looking for!

** Okay now, I've gotta tell ya', the Delete button is special. TheStashCan comes pre-loaded with over 6,000 items and I've organized them in a way that makes sense to me, but I don't want you to have to stick with that. If you don't like how I've got things organized, just pop into Types and define your own. Then when you're finished creating YOUR TYPES go over and edit the Stash you want to keep to reflect your new Type. Seems like a lot of work, but if you delete a Type from right here, the system will ask you are you sure? - if you are click Yes. Then it goes to see if that Type is used to define some of the Stash in your StashCan. If that Type is used in your StashCan ...

It's telling you that if you say Yes it's not only going to delete the current Type, but it's also going to go through your Stash and delete every item of that Type. Now, this is a great tool for "cleaning out" your StashCan of unwanted items, but you've got to be certain that it's really what you want to do.
